Common questions
Do I need an account for the free check or Basic (R49)?
No. The free check and the Basic once-off purchase require no account. You only need an account for Household, Landlord, and Pro subscription plans.
What does the dispute letter include?
A formal pre-filled letter with your account details, the specific anomaly identified, the legal basis (Section 102(2) MSA for municipal accounts, NERSA regulations for Eskom, MPRA for property rates), and a structured remedy request. Three letter types are supported: electricity dispute, water dispute, and property rates objection.
How accurate is the tariff data?
All tariff figures are extracted directly from official council or Eskom PDFs — never from aggregator sites. We clearly mark any municipality whose data has not yet been verified. For a tariff-mismatch dispute, always cross-check against your municipality's current approved schedule.
Can I cancel a subscription?
Yes, at any time from your account dashboard. There are no cancellation fees. You retain access until the end of your current billing cycle.
What payment methods are accepted?
All major South African debit and credit cards via Paystack. EFT is not currently supported.
Is this legal advice?
No. BillCheck SA provides general information and pre-drafted template letters to assist you in asserting your rights. For complex disputes or service disconnection, consult a qualified legal professional.
